Vital Records of Massachusetts to the year 1850

Vital Records to 1850 for Massachusetts towns

In the late 19th Century the vital records of over 200 Massachusetts towns and cities were published collectively by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, the Essex Institute, and several towns. This page links to individual town records at the Archive.org site. They can also be viewed at Haithi Trust. Links are underlined. Where separate links to births, marriages, and deaths have not yet been entered, click on the town’s name (in bold) and scroll through the book.

Directions:

  • Click on the NAME of the town to view the title page, description, and abbreviations.
  • Click on Births, Marriages, or Deaths to go directly to those records at the Archive.org site.
  • On the Archive.org page, scroll forward to the surname you are seeking.
  • A useful Archive.org feature is the magnifying glass in the upper left corner. Type in the surname and links to your search results will appear in the column below the magnifying glass. Search results also appear as blue dots at the bottom, (This feature will work on cell phones by turning the screen sideways.)
